Before setting off for the road trips in Spain here are little information that you need to acquaint yourself with. The road infrastructure in Spain is absolutely wonderful. The new dazzling three-lane highways will get you to the many romantic rural roads meandering around the coastal cliffs and mountain ridges, out from the hustle bustle of the cities that you have been seriously looking out for. If you have affinity with open roads then here are some of the best road trips that you should undertake during your holidays in Spain.

Ruta De Los Molinos

Famous novelist Miguel de Cervantes has mentioned Ruta De Los Molinos in his popular novel Don Quixote. The protagonist in the novel appears to be confused and isn’t able to distinguish between the windmills lining the route and the giants. Apart from being mentioned in the novel, this route has gained immense popularity because of the picturesque countryside which you will pass through the Toledo province. While on your road trip you will come across many windmills in wide open plains, amazing landscapes, and the Toledo city. You should start your trip from the Orgaz town and finish it in Madridejos town, south of Toledo. The distance covered will be 80 km. You can easily accomplish this trip in a weekend. Don’t miss out visiting the Alcazar, which stands on the highest point of Toledo. It is known for its architectural marvels, glorious history and exhibition displaying huge collection of military ornaments. The hot summer months of July and August are the best time to embark on this road trip because of the cooler mountain regions.

Valle Del Jerte

Valle Del Jerte

If you are on a short holiday in Spain and don’t have much time left with you then embarking on a road trip through the Jerte Valley will make your memorable. This scenic landscape becomes lively during the spring time attracting numerous visitors to the villages of Navaconcejo and Cabezuela de la Sierra for seeing the spectacular displays of cherry blossoms. Valle Del Jerte is situated on the border of Ávila province, south of Salamanca. With a distance of only 50 km to cover you can complete your road trip in a day. However, it will be simply great if you decide to spend a night en route for seeing the wonderful sunrise and the blossom in the morning sun. You should start the road trip from the Plasencia town and end it in Tornavacas town. The spring season in mid-April is the best time to go for the trip in order to see the cherry blossom at its best.

Ruta De Los Pueblos Blancos

The ‘white villages’ dot the Ruta De Los Pueblos Blancos. In fact, the provinces of Malaga and Cádiz got their name because of this route. Begin your road trip from Seville, and you will come across dozens of picturesque villages donning the iconic white color of this southern Spain’s region. All these villages are charming and unique in themselves. Don’t forget to make Ronda, one of the white villages located 100 km from Malaga city, a part of your road trip. The Plaza de Toros (the bullring) and the iconic bridge Puente Nuevo are among the major highlights of this village. After covering a distance of around 150 km conclude your trip at Vejer. If however you are interested in soaking up the awesome views of other parts of the region then you may consider taking other routes as well, and there are many such routes. You will have to spend at least a day’s time traversing this route. You may also consider spending one week to explore the white villages in the region.
