Qatar Airways Offers Reward Fee Refunds for U.S. Privilege Club Credit Card Holders

Qatar Airways has partnered with Cardless to introduce a game-changing benefit for Privilege Club credit card holders in the United States. Beginning October 11, 2024, cardholders can receive refunds on reward fees paid when booking flights with their Qatar Airways Privilege Club Infinite or Signature Credit Cards. This initiative aims to enhance the rewards experience for Qatar Airways loyalty program members.

Eligible cardholders can take advantage of this refund opportunity when booking award flights through the airline's website, mobile app, or contact centers, provided they meet specific criteria. "The refunded reward fees will be reflected as statement credits on the respective credit cards after the completion of the flights," a spokesperson from Qatar Airways confirmed. This timely refund is part of the airline's broader strategy to add value for its loyalty program members.

When booking Qatar Airways reward tickets, which travelers purchase using the airline's loyalty currency, Avios, they must still cover applicable taxes and carrier-imposed fees with cash. The new refund initiative seeks to ease this financial burden, making it more appealing for frequent flyers. To qualify, cardholders must have cumulative spending exceeding $15,000 in their first card anniversary year. For subsequent years, this requirement increases to $25,000.

Launched on May 7, 2024, the Qatar Airways-branded credit cards represent a strategic expansion in the U.S. market, where the airline has the highest number of loyalty program members outside of Qatar. "The U.S. has the highest number of members outside of Qatar, so launching the two credit cards in the U.S. was a natural progression for the airline and its loyalty program," noted Thomas Vadakedath, Senior Vice President of Loyalty at Qatar Airways.

The airline is well-positioned in the U.S., operating 108 weekly flights from Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) to 11 destinations nationwide, including 18 weekly flights to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and double-daily services to major hubs such as Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

Qatar Airways plays a crucial role in international travel, connecting regions through its strategic hub in the Middle East. Competing with regional giants like Etihad Airways and Emirates, the airline offers seamless one-stop connections to global destinations. Craig Thomas, Vice President of Sales for the Americas at Qatar Airways, highlighted the growth potential, stating, "As the airline has expanded in the U.S., it has also been able to add traffic to new markets, including Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Africa."

With these new benefits, Qatar Airways is committed to enhancing the loyalty experience for Privilege Club credit card holders, reinforcing its dedication to rewarding frequent flyers in the U.S. This initiative not only reflects the airline's ambition to grow its presence in the American market but also offers customers even more value as they explore the world through Qatar Airways' extensive network.
