United Flight Aborts Takeoff After Engine Fire at Chicago O'Hare Airport
In a recent incident at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, a United Airlines flight aborted its takeoff after one of its engines caught fire. The event caused a temporary halt in arrivals during the busy Memorial Day travel period.
United Flight 2091, an Airbus A320, was preparing for departure around 2 p.m. when the engine fire occurred. The flight was en route to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the engine fire, describing it as an "emergency situation" that was managed swiftly and safely.
In response to the incident, the FAA temporarily stopped all arrivals into O'Hare. United Airlines reported that the plane was safely towed back to the gate, allowing passengers to deplane normally. Notably, no injuries were reported among the 148 passengers and five crew members who were on board.
United Airlines stated, "We are working to make alternative travel arrangements for customers."
This incident coincided with a ground stop issued by the Air Traffic Control System Command Center at the John F. Kennedy International Airport, adding to the day's travel disruptions.
