Frontier Airlines Drops Change Fees, Introduces New Fares
Frontier Airlines has announced that it will eliminate its change fees to enhance customer satisfaction and provide more flexibility, effective immediately. This significant change is accompanied by the introduction of four new fare categories to cater to a diverse range of travelers.
Under the new policy, Frontier Airlines passengers can now make changes to their tickets without incurring the previously $99 mandatory fees. This decision aligns Frontier with other major airlines that have made similar moves in recent years. "We are committed to offering more than the lowest fares -- No gimmicks, just really low prices and good customer service," said Barry Biffle, CEO of Frontier Airlines.
The new bundles include an "economy" package, starting at $30 more than the basic fare, which includes a carry-on and seat assignment. The "premium" package, costing $50 more than a basic fare, adds early boarding. Moreover, the "business" package, starting at $100 more, includes two checked bags and a seat with extra room at the front of the plane.
This change follows the U.S. Department of Transportation's previous rule requiring airlines to disclose all fees upfront. The rule could potentially save travelers over half a billion dollars annually.
Biffle noted that change fees were a "top complaint" among travelers and acknowledged that eliminating these fees makes Frontier more competitive. Additionally, Frontier extended the validity of flight credits from 3 months to 12 months and reintroduced live phone support for some members.
Frontiers' new fares aim to provide more value and flexibility to customers. These changes highlight a part of Frontier's broader strategy to enhance its competitive edge in the low-cost airline market.
