Jamaica's weather in a nutshell
Jamaica is warm all year, with daytime highs in the 80s in every month and sea temperatures that never really cool down. The island has a dry season from roughly December to April and a wetter season from May to November, but rain rarely means a lost day. Showers usually build in the afternoon and clear by evening, and the north coast resort areas of Montego Bay, Negril, and Ocho Rios tend to be drier than the mountainous interior. Jamaica sits far enough south that it avoids many of the storms that track through the northern Caribbean, but it is squarely inside the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 to November 30.
Mid-December to April: peak season
This is when Jamaica shines. Skies are clear, humidity is low, and the evening breeze along the coast is close to perfect. It is also when the island is busiest and resort rates are at their highest, with Christmas and New Year at the very top. Spring break in March brings a younger crowd to Negril in particular, and Easter week fills family resorts. If you want peak weather with slightly softer demand, mid-January through early February is a reliable pick. Whatever week you choose, book early: the popular all-inclusives and the best room categories sell out months ahead for winter.
May and June: the value window
Jamaica's early rainy season is milder than the name suggests. May and June bring warm, slightly more humid days with afternoon showers, but mornings are typically bright and the sea is calm and clear. Crowds thin considerably after Easter, and resort pricing eases. This is a strong window for couples and honeymooners, and for anyone who would rather have a quieter beach than a perfectly cloudless sky. Sargassum seaweed is less of an issue on Jamaica's north and west coasts than in parts of Mexico and the eastern Caribbean, although it can appear on some beaches in late spring and summer.
July and August: summer sun and festival season
Interestingly, July and early August often bring a short dry spell between the spring and fall rains. It is hot and humid, but it is also festival season: Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay draws music fans every July, and summer break means resorts are full of families. Hurricane risk begins to climb in August, so this is the last window before the wetter, riskier stretch. Summer is a good fit for families with school-age kids and for anyone who wants Jamaica's music and food culture at full volume.
September to early November: the wet season
September and October are Jamaica's wettest and most storm-prone months, and the island is at its quietest. Hotel rates are typically at their softest, and some resorts use the lull for renovations, so it pays to check what will be open. Many travelers still have sunny weeks in this period, but it is the time to buy travel protection, pick a resort with plenty to do under cover, and stay flexible. By early November the pattern usually shifts back toward dry, and the weeks before Thanksgiving are a quietly excellent time to go.
