Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic, about 650 miles east of North Carolina. Best time to visit Bermuda

Bermuda has a subtropical climate, not a tropical one, so seasons matter. Beach season runs from May through October, when daytime highs sit in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit and the sea is warm enough for long swims. June through September is peak season for both weather and demand. Winter, from December through March, is mild with highs in the mid 60s to around 70; it is too cool for most beachgoers but ideal for golf, walking and value-priced hotel stays. April, May and October are pleasant shoulder months. Hurricane season runs June through November with the highest risk from August to October. Bermuda is on Atlantic Time and observes daylight saving, so it stays one hour ahead of the East Coast all year.

Where to stay: areas and resort styles

The South Shore parishes of Southampton, Warwick and Paget hold the famous pink beaches and the island's largest resorts, with pools, spas and beach clubs. Cottage colonies, a Bermuda tradition, offer clusters of pastel cottages around a central clubhouse and suit couples who want privacy with service. Hamilton, the capital, has harborfront hotels within walking distance of shops and restaurants, convenient for short stays and business travelers.
