An all-inclusive vacation for an Indian family works best at a large resort in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Punta Cana or Jamaica that can serve Indian vegetarian food, with Jain meals requested in writing, a two-bedroom suite or connecting rooms for grandparents, and a short nonstop flight from Newark, New York, Houston, Dallas or Chicago. Call +1 (323) 800 6001 at any hour and a travel expert finds the right resort and books flights, transfers and rooms with you by phone.
For many Indian-American families, the first question about an all-inclusive is simple: will there be food everyone can eat for a whole week? Several large all-inclusive resorts in Cancun, Riviera Maya and Punta Cana have an Indian restaurant or can prepare Indian vegetarian dishes on request, and which resorts offer this changes from season to season. We tell you which resorts currently offer it when you call, and we put every meal request in writing so the kitchen is ready before you land.
A sample 7-night all-inclusive week for an Indian family
An all-inclusive week is about balance: beach and pool time for the children, rest for grandparents, and one or two outings that everyone remembers. This is a typical shape for Cancun or Riviera Maya; in Punta Cana or Jamaica we swap the outings for local ones, such as Saona Island or Dunn's River Falls.
| Days | Where | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arrive | Nonstop flight, private transfer, check-in and a meeting with guest services to reconfirm vegetarian and Jain meals |
| Day 2 | Resort | Beach and pool morning, kids' club for the children, lunch at the buffet and an early dinner |
| Day 3 | Excursion | Private van to Chichen Itza or the Tulum ruins and a cenote swim, back for dinner |
| Day 4 | Resort | Slow day: spa time for parents, shade and a lounge chair near the water for grandparents |
| Day 5 | Excursion | Catamaran to Isla Mujeres with snorkeling, or a calm glass-bottom boat ride |
| Day 6 | Resort | Family photo session at sunset and a festive dinner, or a Diwali celebration in November |
| Day 7 | Resort | Pool games, shopping for souvenirs and packing |
| Day 8 | Depart | Late checkout where available, transfer and the flight home |
Nonstop flights to Cancun, Punta Cana and Jamaica
Short, nonstop flights are a big part of why these destinations suit families with grandparents and young children. Houston (IAH) and Dallas (DFW) to Cancun take about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes. From Newark (EWR) and New York JFK, Punta Cana is about 3 hours 45 minutes and Montego Bay about 3 hours 50 minutes. Chicago O'Hare (ORD) has nonstops to Cancun and Punta Cana, as do many other US cities in winter.
We choose flights that land by early afternoon, so the family reaches the resort before dinner, and we request wheelchair assistance, seats together and vegetarian or Asian vegetarian meals where the airline serves food. A private transfer with enough room for strollers and luggage is included, which matters most at Cancun, where resorts can be 20 to 90 minutes from the airport.
When to go: Diwali, winter break and the best value weeks
The Caribbean is warm all year, but timing changes the crowd, the weather and the price.
- Diwali, November 8, 2026: this falls in the shoulder season after the rains, with warm seas, open resorts and good availability. It is a lovely time for a family celebration away from home.
- Winter break, December 19 to January 3: the peak of the year. Two-bedroom suites and connecting rooms sell out first, so book 6 to 9 months ahead.
- January to April: dry and sunny, the best weather; spring break weeks in March are busy.
- June to early August: summer holidays with hotter days and some afternoon showers.
- Mid-August to mid-October: the peak of hurricane season. Many families avoid it, or buy travel insurance if they go.
What is included in the package
- Round-trip flights from your US airport, with baggage rules and seats explained up front.
- An all-inclusive resort stay with all meals, snacks and drinks, chosen for its vegetarian and Indian food options.
- Family rooms: a two-bedroom suite, a family suite or connecting rooms confirmed in writing.
- Private airport transfers sized for your family and luggage.
- Vegetarian and Jain meal requests sent in writing and reconfirmed 2 weeks before arrival.
- Optional excursions such as Chichen Itza, Isla Mujeres, Saona Island or Dunn's River Falls.
- One contact 24/7 before and during the trip.
Rooms for grandparents and choosing the right resort
Standard resort rooms sleep up to four, which rarely suits three generations. We look for two-bedroom suites, family suites with a separate living room, or connecting rooms confirmed by the resort in writing, so grandparents have their own space and bathroom. We also ask for ground-floor or elevator-served rooms close to the main restaurants, because large resorts can mean long walks.
Cancun and Riviera Maya offer the widest choice of big family resorts, easy day trips and the shortest flights from Texas. Punta Cana has long, calm beaches along Bavaro and many resorts with several restaurants and water parks. Jamaica adds lush scenery, waterfalls and warm hospitality, and the island's own Ital cooking tradition is largely plant-based. See our family travel booking page for more on planning larger groups.
Indian vegetarian and Jain food at all-inclusive resorts
Most large all-inclusive resorts have buffets with salads, rice, beans, pasta, fresh fruit and grilled vegetables, so vegetarians eat well even without Indian dishes. The difference for Indian families is spice, familiar flavors and strict rules, and that is where planning matters.
- Resorts with Indian food: several large resorts in Cancun, Riviera Maya and Punta Cana have an Indian restaurant or a chef who can prepare dal, sabzi, rice and roti on request. We tell you which resorts currently offer this when you call.
- Jain meals: no root vegetables, onion or garlic. We request Jain meals in writing when we book and reconfirm them 2 weeks before arrival, then you confirm again with the chef on the first day.
- Egg and lard: many Indian vegetarians avoid egg, and refried beans in Mexico can contain lard. We ask the kitchen to flag both.
- Bring a small spice kit: packets of masala, pickle or chutney make buffet dishes feel like home. Declare food items on arrival.
For Diwali, we can ask the resort about a private family dinner or a quiet space for puja. Open flames are usually not allowed in rooms, so pack battery-powered diyas. Birthdays, anniversaries and first family trips can be marked with a cake without egg if the pastry team agrees.
Entry rules for US citizens in 2026
Governments change these rules often, so confirm them on official sources before you travel. Recent rules for US passport holders:
- Mexico: no visa for tourist stays. The tourist fee is included in the airfare. At Cancun, officers now stamp your passport with the number of days allowed instead of the old paper form. The Quintana Roo visitor tax (Visitax) is paid online per person, children included, on the official site.
- Dominican Republic: every traveler completes the e-Ticket online, at no charge, for arrival and again for departure. The tourist card fee is normally included in the airfare.
- Jamaica: complete the online C5 immigration and customs form before you fly.
- Passport: valid for the whole stay, and ideally six months beyond it.
- Green card holders: travelers on Indian passports with a valid US green card generally enter Mexico and the Dominican Republic without a visa. Rules for Jamaica and for other US visa types differ, so confirm with us for every traveler.
Before booking, read the current US State Department travel advisory for every country on your itinerary and consider enrolling in its STEP alert service. Rules for travelers on non-US passports, including green card holders, differ, so tell us every traveler's nationality when you call.
How to get more from your budget
- Travel for Diwali or in early December, when the weather is good and rates sit below the winter-break peak.
- Compare a two-bedroom suite with two connecting rooms. One is sometimes better value than the other for the same family.
- Fly nonstop from a hub such as Houston, Dallas, Chicago or New York to save a connection and a tiring day for elders.
- Book winter break early, ideally 6 to 9 months ahead, before family suites sell out.
- Choose one or two excursions rather than one each day; the resort itself is already paid for.
