Best time to visit the Cayman Islands

Cayman has a tropical climate with two seasons. The dry season runs from December through April, with daytime highs in the low 80s Fahrenheit, low humidity and steady trade winds; this is peak season and the most popular time for packages. May through November is the wet season, with brief afternoon showers, warmer water and hotter days in the high 80s. June through November is Atlantic hurricane season, with the highest risk in September and October, so we recommend travel protection for those months. For the best balance of weather and value, late April to early June and November are excellent shoulder months. Note that Cayman stays on Eastern Standard Time year-round and does not observe daylight saving time.

Where to stay: areas and resort styles

Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman's west coast is where most visitors stay. The northern end near the West Bay district is quieter with wide sand, the central stretch has full-service resorts and condo complexes with pools and beach service, and the southern end sits close to George Town's restaurants and shops. Condo resorts with kitchens are a Cayman specialty and suit families and longer stays. George Town itself has business-style hotels near the harbor. Rum Point and the North Side offer laid-back beach cottages and small resorts on shallow, glassy water. The East End is the island's diving and escape zone, with a few resorts facing the outer reef. Grand Cayman's airport receives nonstop flights from many US gateways. Flights to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are short hops on small aircraft. US passport holders need a valid passport and do not require a visa for tourist stays; carry proof of onward travel and verify entry requirements before travel.
