Dominica, not to be confused with the Dominican Republic, is a mountainous, rainforest-covered island between Guadeloupe and Martinique in the eastern Caribbean. Best time to visit Dominica

Dominica is warm year-round, with coastal highs in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit and cooler, wetter conditions in the mountains. The driest and most popular months are February through May, when trails are firmest, rivers are clear and the annual pre-Lenten street festival lights up Roseau. June through November is the wet season, with heavy showers, swollen waterfalls and greener forests; it is also hurricane season, with the highest risk from August to October, so we recommend travel protection then. Dive Fest in July and the World Creole Music Festival in late October are highlights of the wetter months. Sperm whales can be seen year-round, with the best sightings from November through March. Roseau, the capital on the south-western coast, has small hotels and guesthouses with easy access to Morne Trois Pitons trails, Champagne Reef and the hot-spring village of Wotten Waven, where rustic spas sit beside sulfur springs. The south coast around Soufriere and Scotts Head holds dive lodges on a volcanic bay. The west coast between Roseau and Portsmouth has a handful of upscale cliffside resorts with villas, infinity pools and dramatic sea views, the closest Dominica comes to luxury.
