Spirit Airlines' pet policy
Spirit Airlines' pet policy allows small, domesticated pets to travel with guests on all domestic flights. These include domestic dogs, domestic cats, small household birds (except when traveling to or from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), and small domestic rabbits (except to or from Puerto Rico and the U.S.V.I.).
- Pets must be in an approved carrier that fits under the seat in front of you.
- Only soft-sided containers are allowed, with specific size limits (18" x 14" x 9").
- A maximum of two pets per container and only one container per guest is allowed.
- Pets must be at least 8 weeks old and fully weaned.
- Emotional support animals (ESAN) are now classified as pets under updated regulations, effective as of 16 January 2025.
- Pet Fee: The Spirit Airlines pet travel fee is $125 per pet container, each way.
- A rabies vaccination certificate is required for pets traveling to Puerto Rico.
- No health certificate is required for pets traveling in the aircraft cabin, except for certain destinations like USVI.
- Exotic pets (snakes, spiders, rodents, etc.) are not accepted.
- Spirit Airlines does not transport pets in the cargo compartment at any time.
- Pets are not allowed on international flight tickets, except for service animals. Specific documentation may be required for service animals.
