Spirit Airlines Baggage
Spirit Airlines Baggage policy
Spirit Airlines' baggage policy, updated as of 16 January 2025, offers a straightforward design to keep costs low and provide flexibility. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect regarding baggage allowances, fees, and sizing.
Personal Item
All passengers can bring one personal item at no additional charge. This can be a small backpack, purse, or laptop bag as long as it fits within the following dimensions:
- Dimensions: 18 x 14 x 8 inches (45 x 35 x 20 cm), including handles and wheels.
- Examples: Items like an umbrella, reading material, food, assistive devices, etc.
Carry-On Bag
Passengers flying with Go Big or Go Comfy tickets are allowed one carry-on bag, which fits in the overhead bin. Those flying with Go Savvy can choose to include a carry-on bag when booking. If you've selected Go (the lowest fare), carry-ons are not included and must be purchased separately.
- Dimensions: 22 x 18 x 10 inches (56 x 46 x 25 cm), including handles and wheels.
- Important Note: If a carry-on cannot fit in the overhead bin safely, it will be checked at no extra cost.
Checked Baggage
Passengers with Go Big and Go Comfy fares enjoy the benefit of one checked bag included in their fare. If you need additional checked bags, they can be added for a Spirit Airlines baggage fee (space permitting). For Go Savvy, you can add checked bags, but they are purchased separately.
- Dimensions: Maximum of 62 linear inches (length + width + height) = 158 cm, including handles and wheels.
- Weight Limit: Maximum of 50 pounds (22.6 kg). Bags exceeding these limits are considered oversized and overweight and incur additional fees.
Additional Checked Bag Fees:
- Overweight (51-100 lbs): $125 per bag
- Oversized (63-80 linear inches): $150 per bag
- Special Items (over 80 linear inches): $150 per item
Members of the Free Spirit Gold® program enjoy extra perks, including one checked bag and one carry-on bag free of charge.
