Best time to visit Malta
Malta has a classic Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. The most comfortable months for sightseeing and swimming are May, June, September and October, when daytime highs sit in the upper 70s to mid 80s Fahrenheit and the sea is warm. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, often above 90°F, though the village festas and fireworks are a highlight. November through March is quiet and green, with highs in the 60s and occasional rain, which suits travelers focused on history rather than the beach. Malta is on Central European Time, six hours ahead of US Eastern Time.

Getting there from the US
There are no regular nonstop flights between the US and Malta, so your package flights will connect through a major European hub. Total travel time is roughly 10 to 12 hours from East Coast gateways such as New York, Boston or Washington, and roughly 14 to 17 hours from West Coast gateways such as Los Angeles or San Francisco, depending on the connection. US passport holders can visit Malta and the Schengen Area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa, and a new electronic travel authorization is being phased in, so verify entry requirements before travel. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure.
