Best time to visit Norway
Scandinavia has short, bright summers and long, dark winters. June through August is the prime season, with the midnight sun north of the Arctic Circle, temperatures in the 60s and 70s, open mountain roads and full fjord ferry schedules; July is busiest. May and September are excellent shoulder months, with lighter crowds, spring waterfalls or autumn colors, and most fjord services still running. From late September to late March the northern lights are visible in Tromsø and the Lofoten Islands on clear nights, while December brings Christmas markets to Copenhagen and Stockholm. Winter in the south is cold and dark but atmospheric, and coastal weather can change quickly in any season, so pack layers and waterproofs.
