Best time to visit Vietnam

Because the country is so long, there is no single perfect month, but there is always somewhere with good weather. Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Sapa) is most pleasant from October to April, with cool, sometimes gray winters from December to February and hot, humid summers. Central Vietnam (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An) has its dry, sunny season from February to August, with heavy rain and occasional typhoons from September to December. Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong region, Phu Quoc) is warm year-round, dry from December to April and rainy from May to November, usually in short afternoon bursts. For a classic north-to-south trip, February through April balances all three regions well. Tet, the lunar new year, falls in late January or February and brings closures and busy domestic travel.
