Hajj 2027 Registration for US Pilgrims: How Nusuk Hajj Works

Quick answer: Pilgrims living in the United States book Hajj through Nusuk Hajj, the official Saudi platform at hajj.nusuk.sa. You create an account, upload your passport and photo, fund the platform's e-wallet, and then choose a package from a licensed Saudi service provider when booking opens. Hajj 1448 is expected around May 14 to 19, 2027, subject to the moon sighting. For Hajj 1447, account registration opened on October 7, 2025, so check the platform now. Hajj cannot be performed on the tourist eVisa. To plan the flights and the days around your Hajj program, call a travel expert at Fond Travels on +1 (323) 800 6001.

Assalamu Alaikum. This guide reflects the process used for recent seasons and what was published at the time of writing. Saudi Arabia announces the details of each Hajj season, including the dates and package categories, through the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the Nusuk Hajj platform. Treat those as the final word, and be careful of anyone who offers a Hajj place outside them.

How Hajj booking works for US residents

Before 2022, Americans booked Hajj through local US operators who held quotas. Saudi Arabia replaced that system for pilgrims from Muslim-minority countries, including the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia, with a single official platform, now called Nusuk Hajj.

  • You book directly on the platform, not through a US agent's quota.
  • Packages come from licensed Saudi service providers, approved by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, which run the program in Makkah, Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah.
  • Eligibility is based on where you live, not only on your passport. A US resident with another nationality generally applies through the platform for the United States.
  • Payment is made through the platform, using its e-wallet.
  • The Hajj visa is issued as part of the confirmed booking.

Some US organizations still advertise Hajj programs. Ask how the booking is made. A legitimate program for US residents should lead back to Nusuk Hajj and a licensed Saudi provider.

Expected dates for Hajj 2027

Day of Tarwiyah, move to Mina8 Dhul Hijjah 1448About May 14, 2027

Eid al-Adha10 Dhul Hijjah 1448About May 16, 2027
Days of Tashreeq end13 Dhul Hijjah 1448About May 19, 2027

The exact dates depend on the sighting of the new moon and may move by a day. Hajj programs usually begin several days before 8 Dhul Hijjah and many include days in Madinah before or after, so expect to be away for two to three weeks.

The registration timeline

The platform runs in stages, and each stage opens on a date the Ministry announces. For the 1447 season, the Ministry said account registration began on 15 Rabi' al-Thani 1447, which was October 7, 2025, and that package selection and booking would be announced later.

At the time of writing, we had not seen an official announcement of the opening date for the 1448 season. If it follows last season's pattern, account registration would already be open or open soon. Check hajj.nusuk.sa directly and register as soon as you can. Registering early does not book a place, but it means you are ready when booking opens.

Step by step on Nusuk Hajj

  1. Go to the official site, hajj.nusuk.sa, and make sure the address is exactly right. Fake sites copying the design have appeared in past seasons.
  2. Create your account with your email and phone, and choose the United States as your country of residence.
  3. Upload your passport bio page and a passport-style photo. The passport should be valid well beyond the Hajj dates.
  4. Complete your profile, including your health declaration and any companions who will travel with you.
  5. Fund the e-wallet once the platform allows it. Some US pilgrims add funds gradually over the months before booking.
  6. Choose a package when booking opens. Compare the provider, the package category, the camp location in Mina and Arafat, and the hotel nights included.
  7. Pay and confirm within the deadline. Places are released in rounds and popular packages go quickly.
  8. Complete the health requirements and wait for the Hajj visa.

Who can register

  • Muslims resident in the United States, with a valid passport.
  • A minimum age. The age rule has changed between seasons. In 2025 the Ministry did not allow children to accompany Hajj pilgrims at all, and for 2026 the minimum age for pilgrims from abroad was 12. Check the 1448 rules before you plan to bring a child.
  • Women can register under current rules, and many travel in women's groups. Each provider explains its arrangements.
  • Pilgrims fit for the physical demands of Hajj, which include long walks, nights in Muzdalifah and intense heat. The platform asks for a health declaration.

Saudi Arabia has prioritized pilgrims performing Hajj for the first time in some categories. If you have performed Hajj before, read the platform's rules for the season carefully.

Choosing a package

Packages are grouped into categories that differ mainly in the camps, the accommodation and the services included. When you compare, look at:

  • The camp location in Mina. Distance to the Jamarat makes a big difference to how much you walk each day.
  • Accommodation in Makkah before and after the Hajj days, and how far the hotel is from the Haram.
  • Days in Madinah, if included, and the order of the program.
  • Transport between the holy sites, and whether the program uses the Mashair railway, which serves Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat during Hajj.
  • Group size and guidance, including English-speaking scholars and support staff.
  • Arrival and departure windows, which decide your flight dates.
  • What is excluded, most often international flights.

What the Hajj days look like

Knowing the shape of the days helps you compare packages and plan your own fitness. In outline, and following the guidance of your provider's scholars:

  • Before 8 Dhul Hijjah: arrival, often with days in Madinah or Makkah, and Umrah for pilgrims performing Hajj tamattu'.
  • 8 Dhul Hijjah: pilgrims in ihram move to the tents of Mina.
  • 9 Dhul Hijjah, the Day of Arafah: the heart of Hajj, spent in prayer at Arafat until sunset, then the move to Muzdalifah for the night under the open sky.
  • 10 Dhul Hijjah, Eid al-Adha: the stoning of Jamarat al-Aqabah, the sacrifice, which providers usually arrange by voucher, cutting or shaving the hair, and the tawaf al-ifadah at the Haram.
  • 11 to 13 Dhul Hijjah: nights in Mina and the stoning of the three Jamarat each day, leaving on the 12th or 13th.
  • Before leaving Makkah: the farewell tawaf.

Much of this is on foot, often in great heat and crowds. A camp closer to the Jamarat, and transport between the sites, matter more than the hotel star rating.

Flights for Hajj 2027

Many Nusuk Hajj packages do not include international flights. That leaves you to book flights that match the provider's arrival and departure windows exactly. Flights to Jeddah and Madinah in the ten days before 8 Dhul Hijjah, and out again after Eid, are among the most in demand of the year.

  • Book as soon as your package is confirmed, ideally six months or more before May 2027.
  • Match the provider's dates. Arriving before your program starts may mean finding your own hotel. Arriving late can mean missing the transfer.
  • Check where you land. Some programs start in Madinah and end in Makkah, others the reverse. An open-jaw ticket fits either.
  • Plan for the end-of-Hajj rush. Departures from Jeddah after the days of Tashreeq are very busy. A flight a day or two later is often calmer.
  • Choose connections with time to spare, especially for older pilgrims needing wheelchair assistance.

Health requirements and preparation

The Saudi health authorities publish a separate set of health requirements for each Hajj season, alongside those for Umrah. The core requirements in recent seasons have included the meningitis ACYW vaccine for all pilgrims, with seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines advised. Expect the 1448 rules to be published ahead of the season, and follow your provider's instructions.

  • Heat is the biggest danger. Hajj in May means daytime highs well above 100°F in Makkah and Mina. In 2024, extreme heat during Hajj led to many deaths, most of them among pilgrims performing Hajj without a permit, who had no access to the official camps, transport and shade.
  • Train your walking. Start months ahead and build up to several miles a day in the shoes you will wear.
  • See your doctor early about medicines, especially those that affect hydration, and carry a written summary of your conditions.

Never perform Hajj without a permit

Saudi Arabia enforces "no Hajj without a permit" strictly. People found performing Hajj without one face heavy fines, deportation and bans on returning, and anyone who transports or houses them faces penalties too. The tourist eVisa, the Umrah visa and the stopover visa cannot be used for Hajj, and in the weeks before Hajj, Makkah is closed to anyone without Hajj authorization.

Be wary of offers of a "Hajj place" from anyone outside Nusuk Hajj and a licensed provider, especially offers that rely on a visit or tourist visa. Apart from the legal risk, unregistered pilgrims have no tent in Mina, no transport between the holy sites and no medical support from the program.

If you do not get a place this year

Places are limited, and not every US applicant gets the package they want. If you are not successful:

  • Keep your Nusuk Hajj account up to date and register as soon as the next season opens.
  • Consider Umrah in the meantime. The Umrah season reopens shortly after Hajj, and Ramadan 2027 is expected around February 8 to March 9. See our guide to the best time for Umrah in 2027.
  • Learn the rites now, with your local mosque or a class, so that you are ready when your year comes. Our introduction to Hajj is a good place to start.

How Fond Travels can help

Hajj places and permits are handled by licensed Hajj providers under the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, and US pilgrims book their place through Nusuk Hajj. Our role is to make the travel around that program work for you and your family:

  • Flights from your US airport that match your provider's arrival and departure windows, including open-jaw routings.
  • Extra nights in Madinah or Makkah before or after the program, where the provider allows it.
  • Wheelchair assistance and careful connections for older pilgrims.
  • Clear guidance on each stage of the Nusuk Hajj process, so you know what to do and when.
