Best time to visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons that affect different coasts, so there is always a sunny side of the island. The west and south coasts, including Colombo, Galle, Mirissa and Bentota, are driest from December to March, which is peak season. The east coast, including Trincomalee and Arugam Bay, is at its best from May to September. The Cultural Triangle of Sigiriya, Dambulla and Anuradhapura is hot and mostly dry year-round, while the hill country is cool and can be wet in October and November. For the classic Cultural Triangle, Kandy, tea country and south coast route, December to April is ideal; from June to September, the same route works well with east coast beaches swapped in.

Colombo has modern city hotels along Galle Face Green and the Fort district for a first or last night. In the Cultural Triangle, lodges around Sigiriya and Habarana range from eco-retreats to full-service resorts with views of the rock.
