Best time to visit Jordan
Jordan has a dry climate with wide seasonal and daily temperature swings. Spring, from March to May, and fall, from September to November, are ideal, with daytime highs in the 70s and low 80s Fahrenheit at Petra and Amman and comfortable nights in Wadi Rum. Summer is hot, with Petra in the 90s and the Dead Sea and Aqaba often above 100°F, though mornings are workable and hotels are less busy. Winter is cool and occasionally rainy in Amman and Petra, with cold desert nights in Wadi Rum, but the Dead Sea and Aqaba stay mild and sunny. Jordan uses UTC+3 year-round, seven to eight hours ahead of US Eastern Time depending on daylight saving.

Getting there from the US
Queen Alia International Airport in Amman has nonstop service from New York, with a flight time of roughly 11 to 12 hours eastbound. From other East Coast gateways, expect roughly 13 to 16 hours with one connection through a European or Gulf hub, and roughly 17 to 20 hours from the West Coast. US passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival at Amman airport, and a government tourist pass that bundles the visa with Petra and other site entries is often worthwhile; verify current requirements before travel, and ensure your passport is valid for six months beyond your trip. Overland entry from Israel and Egypt is possible with different visa rules, which we will explain if you are combining countries.
