Assalamu Alaikum. An Umrah package from Atlanta with Fond Travels puts the whole journey in one plan: flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) to Jeddah or Madinah, a hotel within walking distance of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, a hotel near the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, airport transfers, the high-speed train between the two cities, and guidance on the e-visa and Nusuk permit. Call +1 (323) 800 6001 at any hour from Gwinnett, DeKalb, Cobb, Fulton, Clayton or anywhere in the Southeast, and a travel expert arranges it with you by phone. This guide covers how Umrah flights from Atlanta work, the new nonstop to Riyadh that begins in October 2026, how Georgia school breaks fit the 2026-2027 Umrah season, and practical tips for the international terminal.
Flights from Atlanta to Jeddah and Madinah
Atlanta has no nonstop flight to Jeddah or Madinah, so Umrah flights from ATL connect once on the way. The airport has nonstop service to Doha several times a week and daily flights to Istanbul, and both cities have frequent flights on to Jeddah and Madinah. European connections through Amsterdam, Paris or London add more departure times. Counting the layover, a one-stop journey from Atlanta usually takes 17 to 21 hours.
From October 23, 2026, Atlanta gains a nonstop to Riyadh, scheduled three times a week. From Riyadh, Jeddah and Madinah are domestic flights of roughly 90 minutes to two hours, which can be booked on the same ticket. For pilgrims who prefer one long overseas flight, this new routing is worth comparing with the Doha and Istanbul options, especially for a Madinah-first plan.
Travelers who want a nonstop straight to Jeddah can also take a short domestic flight to Washington Dulles or New York JFK, both of which have nonstop service to Jeddah. Your expert confirms current schedules before quoting.
Route options from Atlanta
| Routing | Typical journey | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| One stop via Doha | About 17 to 20 hours | Evening departures and short onward flights to Jeddah or Madinah |
| One stop via Istanbul | About 17 to 20 hours | Daily departures and a daytime connection |
| Nonstop to Riyadh, then a domestic flight (from October 2026) | About 17 to 20 hours | Pilgrims who want one long overseas flight and a Madinah-first plan |
| One stop via Amsterdam, Paris or London | About 18 to 21 hours | Peak dates when other connections sell out |
| Domestic flight to Dulles or JFK, then nonstop to Jeddah | About 16 to 20 hours | Travelers who want to land in Jeddah on one overseas flight |
Should you land in Jeddah or Madinah first?
From Georgia you cross seven or eight time zones and spend close to a full day traveling. Jeddah first suits energetic travelers and short trips: the high-speed railway station is connected to Terminal 1 at King Abdulaziz International Airport, and Makkah is about an hour to 90 minutes away by car. Because the miqat is crossed in the air, most pilgrims flying to Jeddah change into ihram at the connecting airport or on board.
Madinah first gives you time to rest near Masjid an-Nabawi before the more demanding days in Makkah. You enter ihram at the Madinah miqat as you leave for Makkah, travel by train or private car, and fly home from Jeddah. We usually suggest this order for seniors, families with young children and first-time pilgrims. For the rites themselves, please follow your scholar or group leader.
What is included in an Umrah package from Atlanta
We shape every package around your family's needs. A typical Atlanta package includes:
- Round-trip flights from ATL to Jeddah (JED) or Madinah (MED), compared for journey time, layover and arrival hour, with baggage rules explained up front.
- Hotels in Makkah by walking distance to the Haram: facing the courtyard, a 10 to 15 minute walk, or a shuttle-served property with more space.
- Hotels in Madinah in the central zone, most five to ten minutes on foot from the Prophet's Mosque.
- Transfers from the airport, between Makkah and Madinah by high-speed train (about two to two and a half hours) or private car, and back for your flight home.
- Visa guidance covering the e-visa, Nusuk permit, passport validity and vaccination proof.
- Ziyarat tours of places such as Mount Arafat and Jabal al-Nour near Makkah, and Quba Mosque and Masjid al-Qiblatayn in Madinah.
- Group or private options, plus wheelchair and other assistance requests on every segment.
When to travel from Atlanta for Umrah
For the 1448 Umrah season, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that visa issuance opened on May 31, 2026. The last visa issuance is set around March 9, 2027, the last entry around March 23, 2027 and the last departure around April 7, 2027. Umrah visas then pause for the Hajj season, expected in mid-May 2027, and reopen afterwards. The dates follow the lunar calendar, so confirm them before travel.
Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from approximately February 8 to March 9, 2027. Atlanta families usually aim for the last ten nights, and hotels nearest the Haram go first, so plan four to six months ahead.
Gwinnett County Public Schools' 2026-2027 calendar is a useful guide for metro Atlanta. Winter break runs from December 21, 2026 to January 1, 2027, the most popular family window. February break gives a five-day weekend from February 12 to 16, 2027, which falls in the first week of Ramadan and suits a short Ramadan trip with a few extra days added. Spring break is April 5-9, 2027, after the published last entry date, so a spring break Umrah is not possible this season. DeKalb, Cobb, Fulton and Atlanta Public Schools calendars differ, so bring your own dates.
Local planning notes for Atlanta pilgrims
International flights at ATL use the Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal, which has its own entrance and parking on the east side of the airport, reached from Interstate 75. If you are dropped off at the domestic terminal instead, the Plane Train and a shuttle connect the two, but allow extra time. MARTA trains serve the domestic terminal, which suits travelers with light bags.
Coming home, most itineraries land back at the international terminal, where US immigration and customs are handled before you collect your bags. Arrange a pickup at the international terminal rather than the domestic side, and keep Zamzam water within the airline's allowance, which your expert explains when you book. Families with Global Entry clear the arrival formalities faster after a long journey.
Plan to be at the airport at least three hours before an international departure, or three and a half hours during Ramadan, Thanksgiving and the winter break. Keep passports, visas, the Nusuk permit and vaccination records together in your carry-on bag.
Summer thunderstorms and the occasional winter ice event can delay departures from Atlanta, so we avoid tight connections at those times and explain travel protection before you pay.
Many pilgrims from the Carolinas, Alabama, Tennessee and North Florida start at ATL with a short domestic flight. Wherever you begin, we request wheelchair assistance at every airport, reserve aisle seats and pick hotels with short walks. Our senior travel reservations desk handles these arrangements every day.
Community groups across metro Atlanta often travel together in the winter break and Ramadan. For ten or more travelers we reserve a seat block on one routing, keep hotels and transfers together and name a single coordinator. See how we manage group travel flights. First-time pilgrims can call without any preparation.
Umrah visa and documents for US passport holders
Saudi authorities set these rules and revise them between seasons, so confirm them before travel. Before booking, also read the current US State Department travel advisory for Saudi Arabia and the countries you connect through, consider enrolling in its STEP alert service, and expect some Gulf flight schedules to change at short notice in 2026. In recent seasons the checklist has been:
- Visa: the Saudi tourist e-visa, which US citizens have been eligible for and which the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has confirmed allows Umrah outside the Hajj period, or an Umrah e-visa through Nusuk or a licensed provider.
- Nusuk permit: an Umrah permit reserved in the Nusuk app before performing Umrah at Masjid al-Haram.
- Passport: valid for at least six months from your entry date.
- Vaccination: quadrivalent (ACWY) meningococcal vaccine at least 10 days before arrival and within the last three to five years, depending on vaccine type.
- Mixed-nationality groups: a separate check for anyone traveling on a non-US passport.
