This hub page introduces the whole country: both coasts and the colonial interior.
Mexico is one of the most popular international destinations for US travelers: short flights, a huge all-inclusive resort inventory, and real variety across two coasts and the interior. Tell us who is traveling and what pace you want, and we will point you to the right coast. Call for current pricing on your dates.
Why Mexico for your vacation
Two coastlines, two very different vacations. The Caribbean side around Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Tulum, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres means white sand, turquoise water, reefs, and Mayan ruins. The Pacific side around Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, Huatulco, and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo brings desert-meets-sea scenery, sportfishing, and whale watching. Inland, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, San Miguel de Allende, and Mérida & Yucatán trade beaches for museums, markets, and remarkable food.
Mexico vacation packages fit almost any budget style, and a beach-plus-city itinerary is easy because domestic flights between regions are short.
What's included in a Mexico package
- Round-trip flights on major airlines from your nearest US gateway, nonstop or with one connection.
- Resort or hotel nights with the meal plan you choose: all-inclusive, breakfast included, or room only.
- Airport transfers between the arrival airport and your resort, private or shared.
- Optional tours such as ruins visits, cenote swims, snorkel trips, and whale watching.
- A cruise leg where relevant, such as a Mexican Riviera sailing paired with resort nights in Los Cabos.
- An agent who handles changes and questions from booking to return.
Best time to visit Mexico
On the Caribbean coast (Cancun, Riviera Maya, Tulum, Cozumel), the dry season runs December through April with warm days and peak demand at Christmas, New Year's, and spring break. The rainy season runs May through October with humid afternoons and short heavy showers; hurricane season on this coast runs June through November, with the greatest activity from August to October.
On the Pacific coast (Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán), the driest and most comfortable months run November through May. The Pacific hurricane season runs roughly May through November, with the wettest stretch from August to October. Humpback whales visit Los Cabos and Banderas Bay from roughly December through March. Inland, Mexico City and Oaxaca are mild year-round, with rains from June to September. Day of the Dead in early November fills Oaxaca and Mexico City, so reserve early.
Where to stay: areas and resort styles
In Cancun, the Hotel Zone lines a long barrier beach with family and adults-only all-inclusives. The Riviera Maya runs south from Puerto Morelos through Playa del Carmen to Tulum and hosts the country's largest all-inclusive resorts. Tulum favors boutique beach hotels; Cozumel and Isla Mujeres are quieter island options. In Los Cabos, choose the lively Cabo San Lucas marina end, the Tourist Corridor, or the calmer San José del Cabo art district. Puerto Vallarta offers the Romantic Zone downtown, the Marina district, and the Nuevo Vallarta resort zone across the bay.
Styles include adults-only all-inclusives for couples, family all-inclusives with kids' clubs and water parks, boutique hotels in Tulum and the colonial cities, villas in Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta for groups, and city hotels in Mexico City's Polanco, Roma, and Condesa neighborhoods. We work with well-known resort brands and independent hotels.
Things to do in Mexico
- Swim in cenotes and explore the ruins of Chichén Itzá, Tulum, and Cobá from the Riviera Maya.
- Snorkel the Mesoamerican Reef off Cozumel or swim with whale sharks near Isla Mujeres from roughly June to September.
- Watch whales, go sportfishing, or take a boat to the Arch at Land's End in Los Cabos.
- Eat your way through Mexico City's markets and Oaxaca's mole and mezcal country.
- Tour tequila distilleries near Guadalajara or climb the Teotihuacán pyramids outside Mexico City.
Getting there from the US
Flight times are short. Cancun is roughly 2–3 hours nonstop from Texas gateways such as Dallas and Houston, about 2 hours from Miami, and roughly 3.5–4.5 hours from New York. Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta are roughly 2–3 hours nonstop from Los Angeles, while East Coast travelers can expect 5–7 hours with a connection through Dallas or Houston. Mexico City has nonstop service from most major US hubs.
US passport holders need a valid passport book for air travel — verify requirements before travel. Mexico's tourist entry (the FMM) is handled electronically or on arrival at most airports, and rules change, so confirm current entry steps before departure. The currency is the Mexican peso; US dollars are accepted in resort areas, but pesos go further locally. Spanish is the language, with English spoken throughout tourist zones. Cancun and the Riviera Maya keep Eastern Standard Time year-round, Los Cabos is on Mountain Standard Time, and Puerto Vallarta and Mexico City are on Central Standard Time; most of Mexico does not observe daylight saving time.
Who this package suits
Couples and honeymooners gravitate to adults-only all-inclusives in the Riviera Maya and Los Cabos. Families do well in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, with water parks and kids' clubs near calm beaches. Seniors appreciate nonstop flights and the warm, dry winters of the Pacific coast; ask about our senior travel reservations. Weddings, reunions, and friend groups can lock in group travel flights with rooms held together. Solo travelers enjoy Mexico City and Oaxaca for food and culture. For extra comfort, ask about business class or first class upgrades on your Mexico vacation packages.
