Assalamu Alaikum. An Umrah package from Los Angeles with Fond Travels brings the whole journey into one plan: flights from Los Angeles International (LAX) to Jeddah or Madinah, a hotel within walking distance of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, a hotel near the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, airport transfers, the high-speed train between the two cities, and guidance on the e-visa and Nusuk permit. Call +1 (323) 800 6001 at any hour from Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire, the San Fernando Valley or anywhere in Southern California, and a travel expert arranges it with you by phone. This guide covers the LAX nonstop to Jeddah, the one-stop alternatives, how LAUSD's calendar fits the 2026-2027 Umrah season, and practical tips for the longest Umrah journey from the continental US.
Nonstop and one-stop flights from LAX to Jeddah
Los Angeles has a nonstop flight to Jeddah several times a week. At roughly 15 to 16 hours, it is one of the longest flights in the world, but it lands you in Jeddah without a connection, which many West Coast families value, especially with older parents. Because it does not operate every day, the nonstop is the first flight to fill in Ramadan and the winter recess.
On other days, LAX has nonstop flights to Doha, Dubai and Istanbul, and each of those cities has several daily flights on to Jeddah and Madinah. European connections through London, Paris or Frankfurt add more times. A one-stop journey from Los Angeles usually takes 20 to 24 hours in total, including the layover.
West Coast pilgrims usually prefer an evening departure so they sleep through most of the long first flight. Your expert confirms the current nonstop days and compares them with one-stop options before quoting.
Route options from Los Angeles
| Routing | Typical journey | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Nonstop LAX to Jeddah | About 15 to 16 hours | Families, seniors and anyone who wants one flight |
| One stop via Doha or Dubai | About 20 to 23 hours | Daily evening departures and a Madinah-first plan |
| One stop via Istanbul | About 20 to 23 hours | A daytime connection and a shorter second flight |
| One stop via London, Paris or Frankfurt | About 21 to 24 hours | Peak dates when other flights sell out |
Should you land in Jeddah or Madinah first?
From California you cross ten or eleven time zones, the largest jump of any US departure. With the nonstop, Jeddah first is the natural choice: you cross the miqat in the air, so most pilgrims change into ihram at LAX or on board before the announcement. The high-speed railway station is connected to Terminal 1 at King Abdulaziz International Airport, and Makkah is about an hour to 90 minutes away by car.
Madinah first needs one connection but gives valuable time to rest near Masjid an-Nabawi and recover from the time change before the more demanding days in Makkah. You then enter ihram at the Madinah miqat on the way to Makkah and fly home from Jeddah. Given the long journey from the West Coast, we often suggest this order for seniors, young children and first-time pilgrims. For the rites themselves, please follow your scholar or group leader.
What is included in an Umrah package from Los Angeles
Every package is shaped around your family's pace. A typical Los Angeles package includes:
- Round-trip flights from LAX to Jeddah (JED) or Madinah (MED), with the nonstop compared against one-stop options for time, layover and arrival hour.
- Hotels in Makkah chosen by walking distance to the Haram: facing the courtyard, a 10 to 15 minute walk, or a shuttle-served property with more space.
- Hotels in Madinah in the central zone, most five to ten minutes on foot from the Prophet's Mosque.
- Transfers from the airport, between Makkah and Madinah by high-speed train (about two to two and a half hours) or private car, and back for your flight home.
- Visa guidance for the e-visa, Nusuk permit, passport validity and vaccination proof.
- Ziyarat tours such as Mount Arafat and Jabal al-Nour near Makkah, and Quba Mosque and Masjid al-Qiblatayn in Madinah.
- Cabin options for the long flights, including premium economy or business class if you want more room to sleep.
When to travel from Los Angeles for Umrah
For the 1448 Umrah season, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that visa issuance opened on May 31, 2026. The last visa issuance is set around March 9, 2027, the last entry around March 23, 2027 and the last departure around April 7, 2027. Umrah visas then pause for the Hajj season, expected in mid-May 2027, and reopen afterwards. The dates follow the lunar calendar, so confirm them before travel.
Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from approximately February 8 to March 9, 2027. Southern California families often aim for the last ten nights, when hotels nearest the Haram sell out first, so plan four to six months ahead.
The Los Angeles Unified School District's 2026-2027 calendar is unusually good for Umrah. Thanksgiving recess is the full week of November 23-27, 2026, a comfortable window with mild weather in Makkah. Winter recess runs for three weeks, from December 21, 2026 to January 8, 2027, long enough for a relaxed trip even with the long flights. Spring recess is March 22-26, 2027, right at the published last entry date, so a spring recess Umrah needs visas issued by about March 9 and arrival by about March 23. Orange County, Inland Empire and private school calendars differ, so bring your own dates.
Local planning notes for Los Angeles pilgrims
Most long-haul flights to the Middle East leave from the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX. Traffic on the 405 and the 105 can add an hour at peak times, so plan the drive carefully for an evening departure. The FlyAway bus from Union Station and other locations is an alternative for travelers with manageable bags, and your itinerary confirms the terminal before you leave home.
Ontario, Burbank, Long Beach and John Wayne airports have no long-haul flights to the Gulf, so trips from those airports start with a connection. For most of Southern California, starting at LAX is simpler. Pilgrims from San Diego, Bakersfield and Las Vegas often take a short domestic flight into LAX to join the nonstop.
Be at LAX at least three and a half hours before an international departure, and four hours during Ramadan, Thanksgiving and the winter recess. Keep passports, visas, the Nusuk permit and vaccination records together in your carry-on bag. For a 15-hour flight, pack medication, a light change of clothes and ihram in your hand luggage.
Coming home, the westbound flights are even longer, so many families plan a quiet day after landing at LAX. US immigration and customs are handled before baggage claim, and Zamzam water must stay within the airline's allowance, which your expert explains when you book. Global Entry helps after such a long journey.
We request wheelchair assistance at every airport, reserve aisle seats and choose hotels with short walks for older parents. Our senior travel reservations desk arranges these details every day.
Mosque and community groups from across Southern California often travel together in the winter recess and Ramadan. For ten or more travelers we reserve a block of seats, keep hotels and transfers together and assign one coordinator. See how we handle group travel flights. First-time pilgrims can call without any preparation.
Umrah visa and documents for US passport holders
Saudi authorities set these rules and revise them between seasons, so confirm them before travel. Before booking, also read the current US State Department travel advisory for Saudi Arabia and the countries you connect through, consider enrolling in its STEP alert service, and expect some Gulf flight schedules to change at short notice in 2026. In recent seasons the checklist has been:
- Visa: the Saudi tourist e-visa, which US citizens have been eligible for and which the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has confirmed allows Umrah outside the Hajj period, or an Umrah e-visa through Nusuk or a licensed provider.
- Nusuk permit: an Umrah permit reserved in the Nusuk app before performing Umrah at Masjid al-Haram.
- Passport: valid for at least six months from your date of entry.
- Vaccination: quadrivalent (ACWY) meningococcal vaccine at least 10 days before arrival and within the last three to five years, depending on vaccine type.
- Mixed-nationality families: a separate check for anyone traveling on a non-US passport, including transit rules at the connecting airport.
