Assalamu Alaikum. An Umrah package from North Carolina with Fond Travels puts the whole journey in one plan: flights from Charlotte Douglas (CLT) or Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to Jeddah or Madinah, a hotel within walking distance of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, a hotel near the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, airport transfers, the high-speed train between the two cities, and guidance on the e-visa and Nusuk permit. Call +1 (323) 800 6001 at any hour from Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Greensboro or anywhere in the Carolinas, and a travel expert arranges it with you by phone. This guide compares Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham, explains how school breaks fit the 2026-2027 Umrah season, and gives practical tips for departure day.

Flights from Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham to Jeddah and Madinah

Neither Charlotte nor Raleigh-Durham has a nonstop to Saudi Arabia or the Gulf, so Umrah itineraries from North Carolina connect. Charlotte has nonstops to London and, in season, to several other European cities, and Raleigh-Durham has nonstops to London, Paris and a few other European cities; each connects on to Jeddah or Madinah. Counting the layover, a one-stop journey through Europe usually takes 17 to 21 hours.

Many North Carolina pilgrims prefer a short domestic flight to Washington Dulles or New York JFK, both of which have nonstop flights to Jeddah, or to Atlanta for its Doha and Istanbul nonstops and, from October 2026, its Riyadh nonstop. Your expert compares these routings for your dates and confirms current schedules.

Should you land in Jeddah or Madinah first?

From the Carolinas you cross seven or eight time zones and spend close to a full day traveling. Jeddah first suits energetic travelers and short trips: the high-speed railway station is connected to Terminal 1 at King Abdulaziz International Airport, and Makkah is about an hour to 90 minutes away by car. Because the miqat is crossed in the air, most pilgrims flying to Jeddah change into ihram at the connecting airport or on board.

Madinah first gives you time to rest near Masjid an-Nabawi before the more demanding days in Makkah. You enter ihram at the Madinah miqat as you leave for Makkah, travel by train or private car, and fly home from Jeddah. We usually suggest this order for seniors, families with young children and first-time pilgrims. For the rites themselves, please follow your scholar or group leader.

What is included in an Umrah package from North Carolina

Every package is built around your family's pace. A typical North Carolina package includes:

  • Round-trip flights from your North Carolina airport to Jeddah (JED) or Madinah (MED), compared for journey time, layover and arrival hour, with baggage rules explained up front.
  • Hotels in Makkah by walking distance to the Haram: facing the courtyard, a 10 to 15 minute walk, or a shuttle-served property with more space.
  • Hotels in Madinah in the central zone, most five to ten minutes on foot from the Prophet's Mosque.
  • Transfers from the airport, between Makkah and Madinah by high-speed train (about two to two and a half hours) or private car, and back for your flight home.
  • Visa guidance covering the e-visa, Nusuk permit, passport validity and vaccination proof.
  • Ziyarat tours such as Jabal al-Nour and Mount Arafat near Makkah, and Quba Mosque and Masjid al-Qiblatayn in Madinah.
  • Group or private options, plus wheelchair and other assistance requests on every segment.

When to travel from North Carolina for Umrah

For the 1448 Umrah season, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that visa issuance opened on May 31, 2026. The last visa issuance is set around March 9, 2027, the last entry around March 23, 2027 and the last departure around April 7, 2027. Umrah visas then pause for the Hajj season, expected in mid-May 2027, and reopen afterwards. The dates follow the lunar calendar, so confirm them before you book.

Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from approximately February 8 to March 9, 2027, with Eid al-Fitr around March 10. North Carolina families often aim for the last ten nights, and hotels nearest the Haram go first, so plan four to six months ahead.

Wake County Public Schools' 2026-2027 traditional calendar is a useful guide for the Triangle. Thanksgiving break is November 25 to 27, 2026, which with the weekends makes five days, enough for a short trip if you add a few more. Winter break runs from December 21, 2026 to January 1, 2027, the most popular family window. Spring break, March 29 to April 2, 2027, comes after the published last entry date of about March 23, so a spring break Umrah is not possible this season. Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Durham and Guilford calendars differ, so bring your own dates. Islamic and private school calendars often differ again, so share every child's dates when you call and we plan around all of them.

Local planning notes for North Carolina pilgrims

Charlotte Douglas is a major hub with one main terminal, and international flights leave from its concourses after a single security check. Raleigh-Durham international flights leave from Terminal 2. From Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, RDU is usually 20 to 35 minutes by car; from Greensboro and Winston-Salem, allow about 90 minutes to either airport.

Winter ice storms and summer thunderstorms can occasionally delay departures in the Carolinas. We avoid tight connections at those times and explain travel protection before you pay.

Be at the airport at least three hours before an international departure, or two hours for a domestic first flight, and add time during Ramadan and the school breaks. Keep passports, visas, the Nusuk permit and vaccination records together in your carry-on bag. Coming home, US immigration and customs are handled at your arrival airport, and Zamzam water must stay within the airline's allowance.

Because every trip from North Carolina includes at least one connection, we keep the whole journey on one ticket so bags are checked through to Jeddah or Madinah and a delay on the first flight is protected. For older parents, a comfortable layover at Dulles, JFK or in Europe is usually better than a tight one, and we request assistance at each airport along the way.

Pilgrims from South Carolina, southern Virginia and eastern Tennessee also start at Charlotte or Raleigh-Durham. Wherever you begin, we request wheelchair assistance at every airport, reserve aisle seats and pick hotels with short walks. Our senior travel reservations desk handles these arrangements every day.

Mosque and community groups from Charlotte, the Triangle and the Triad often travel together in the winter break and in Ramadan. For ten or more travelers we reserve a block of seats on one routing, keep hotels and transfers together and name a single coordinator. See how we manage group travel flights. First-time pilgrims can call without any preparation.

Umrah visa and documents for US passport holders

Saudi authorities set these rules and revise them between seasons, so confirm them before travel. Before booking, also read the current US State Department travel advisory for Saudi Arabia and the countries you connect through, consider enrolling in its STEP alert service, and expect some Gulf flight schedules to change at short notice in 2026. In recent seasons the checklist has been:

  • Visa: the Saudi tourist e-visa, which US citizens have been eligible for and which the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has confirmed allows Umrah outside the Hajj period, or an Umrah e-visa through Nusuk or a licensed provider.
  • Nusuk permit: an Umrah permit reserved in the Nusuk app before performing Umrah at Masjid al-Haram.
  • Passport: valid for at least six months from your entry date.
  • Vaccination: quadrivalent (ACWY) meningococcal vaccine at least 10 days before arrival and within the last three to five years, depending on vaccine type.
  • Mixed-nationality families: a separate check for anyone traveling on a non-US passport, including any transit visa rules in Europe.

Umrah Packages from North Carolina: frequently asked questions

No. Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham have no nonstop to Saudi Arabia or the Gulf. Pilgrims connect through Europe, or take a short flight to Dulles or JFK for the nonstop to Jeddah, or to Atlanta for Gulf connections. Call +1 (323) 800 6001 and we compare them.

It depends on where you live and your dates. Charlotte has more departures as a major hub, while Raleigh-Durham is closer for the Triangle. From either airport, a short flight to Dulles or JFK for the Jeddah nonstop is often the simplest option.

With one connection, the total journey usually takes 16 to 21 hours, depending on the routing and layover. The Dulles or JFK nonstop keeps the long flight on one aircraft, while European connections from Charlotte or Raleigh-Durham take a little longer.

A typical package includes flights from Charlotte or Raleigh-Durham to Jeddah or Madinah, hotels near Masjid al-Haram and the Prophet's Mosque, airport transfers, the high-speed train or a private car between the cities, e-visa and Nusuk permit guidance, and optional ziyarat tours, arranged as a group or private trip.

Jeddah first suits travelers who want to perform Umrah soon after landing, especially with the Dulles or JFK nonstop. Madinah first gives time to rest and adjust to the time difference. For seniors, children and first-timers, we usually recommend Madinah first.

Not this season. Wake County's spring break is March 29 to April 2, 2027, after the published 1448 season deadline of about March 23 for entry. The winter break from December 21, 2026 to January 1, 2027 is the best school window for Triangle families.

It can. From October 23, 2026, Atlanta has a nonstop to Riyadh three times a week, with domestic flights on to Jeddah and Madinah. A short flight from Charlotte or Raleigh-Durham to Atlanta makes it another option to compare for your dates.

Start planning four to six months ahead. Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from approximately February 8 to March 9, 2027, subject to moon sighting. The last ten nights bring the highest demand for hotels near the Haram and for the East Coast nonstops.

Yes. Charlotte Douglas is close to much of upstate and central South Carolina, and many pilgrims from Rock Hill, Columbia and Greenville start there. We book the whole trip on one ticket so bags are checked through and connections are protected.

Recent seasons have required a passport valid for six months, a Saudi tourist e-visa or Umrah e-visa, an Umrah permit reserved in the Nusuk app, and proof of ACWY meningococcal vaccination at least 10 days before arrival. Saudi rules change between seasons, so confirm before travel.

Yes. Mosque and community groups from Charlotte, the Triangle and the Triad travel with us in the winter break and Ramadan. For ten or more travelers we reserve a block of seats on one routing, keep the group in matching hotels, arrange shared transfers and provide one coordinator.

Call +1 (323) 800 6001 at any hour. Tell the expert your dates, how many are traveling, whether you want Jeddah or Madinah first and how close to the Haram you want to stay. We build the itinerary, quote the total, book everything and email confirmations with a checklist.
